Abstract

Intoxicacion por paraquat en la ciudad de Valledupar Colombia: reporte de caso

Efer Amid Rieder Garrido*, René Alejandro Urón Pinto, Nubia Estefani Ardila Jalilie*, Danilo Andres Sierra Sierra and Nimrod David Rico Martinez*

Paraquat or 1,1'-dimethyl-4,4'-bipyridyl dichloride also known by the trade name gramoxone is a compound distributed and used worldwide as a herbicide that has highly toxic effects on human health, especially affecting the liver, kidney, pulmonary and to a lesser extent the gastrointestinal systems with a high lethality. Below is the clinical case of a 21-year-old patient who ingested paraquat with suicidal purposes but due to the symptoms caused in the first hours by the poisoning decides to go to a medical center where she receives medical attention in conjunction with multiple specialties who established early medical pharmacological and hemodialytic management, preventing the death of the patient and also comorbidities that will incapacitate her throughout her life despite the high toxicity of paraquat.
