Abstract

SYNTHESIS AND ANTIMICROBIAL EVALUATION OF 3,5- PYRAZOLIDINE-DIONE SUBSTITUTED 4-QUINOLONE DERIVATIVES

MANISH GUPTA, NEERAJ UPMANYU, SOMA PRAMANIK , CHANDRA KISHORE TYAGI AND AMOL CHANDEKAR

A series of novel 1-(2-methyl-4-oxo-1,4-dihydro quinoline-6-carbonyl)-2-(substituted phenyl)- pyrazolidine-3, 5-diones [5A-5H] were synthesized with different aromatic hydrazides and evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activity. The structures of the compounds were confirmed by nitrogen analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral data. The antimicrobial activity of synthesized compounds were examined against two gram positive bacteria (S. aureus, B. subtilis), two gram negative bacteria (E. coli, S. species) and two fungi (C. albicans and A. niger) using broth dilution technique. Some of the synthesized compounds exhibited mild to moderate antibacterial and antifungal activity.
