Abstract

The influence of gene polymorphisms on evolution of atherosclerosis

The evolution of atherosclerosis is influenced by environmental risk factors such as dyslipidemia, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus and smoking, which are significantly related to cardiovascular (CV) disease and by genetic factors. Genetic factors may explain approximately 50% of the risk for CV disease.
