Abstract

Health Science journal’s path from 2007, when it began its existence, until 2012 has been recorded in a previous article published in volume 6 (late 2012)1.From that day Health Sci. J. had a significant number of new achievements.

Health Science journal’s path from 2007, when it began its existence, until 2012 has been recorded in a previous article published in volume 6 (late 2012) [1]. From that day Health Sci. J. had a significant number of new achievements.

Since 2009 Health Sci. J. has published 267 articles 162 of which were published after 2012.The submitted articles for publication each year exceeded the number of 80. There were approximately 250 new submissions since 2011 the majority of which were original research papers and reviews. In 2012 Health Sci. J. received requests to be indexed in Gale library and Cabels directory. In 2014 more than 550 results are cited in Google Scholar, a literature search engine, including those from the Hypateia repository of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens.

While a significant number of references and citations to the journal’s articles by high impact organizations and influential academic journals existed already, many citations from articles published in mass media started to appear (e.g Huffington post,CNN).

In June of 2014 a new metric was presented by scopus which was developed in cooperation with Leiden University's Centre for Science & Technology Studies (CWTS).The Impact Per Publicarion (IPP) metric. The IPP seems to follow the same calculation formula with Thomson Reuters impact factor. According to scopus, IPP measures the ratio of citations in a year (Y) to scholarly papers published in the three previous years (Y-1, Y-2, Y-3) divided by the number of scholarly papers published in those same years (Y-1, Y-2, Y-3). It is obvious that it uses three years period as an «optimal time period» in order to accurately measure citations [2]. Health Science journal achieved an IPP of 0,409 in addition to the other scientific impact indicators that had already aquired since 2010 (SNIP,SJR and H index). At the same year for the first time Health Sci. J. upgraded from Scimago Labs into a Quality 3 (Q3) level publication from Quality 4 (Q4) in nursing field [3].

Understanding that there is great interest from the academic community Health Sci. J. looks forward to new collaborations which will ensure, the existence of modern management and evaluation publishing tools such as the platform Crossref,Crosscheck and iThenticate as well and the use of Digital Object Identifiers. Future goals are the index of the journal in high impact databases including Pubmed and Medline. Keeping the same perception about the quality of scientific publications, the journal will continue to publish high quality articles thanking all those who have supported this effort over the last eight years.
