Author(s): Sarwal Amita* and Bharti Sunil

The aim of the study was to develop a drug delivery system that could improve the therapeutic efficacy and onset of action of Fluoxetine, a commonly used antidepressant. FXT acts by blocking serotonin transport receptors. Two different methods were used to create mucoadhesive buccal tablets containing fluoxetine hydrochloride. The first method used was the direct compression method, in this method the tablets were prepared by compressing the crystalline ingredients together. The optimized batch (B2) was selected based on the results obtained from various studies conducted. Also, a lyophilized tablet batch (L1) was prepared using the same polymer as in the B2 batch. This was achieved through the solvent casting freeze drying method. Several studies were performed on the developed tablets, including in-vitro and ex-vivo release studies, pre-formulation studie..
