The incidence of cancer is increasing world-wide and hence presenting more often for various surgical procedures. Anaesthesiologists are facing newer challenges in the perioperative period due to different adjuvant onco-therapies undertaken by these patients. Cancer chemotherapy affects almost all organ systems of the body and hence a complete pre-anaesthetic work-up is mandatory in all cases. This presentation focusses on the general and specific anaesthetic implications of the chemotherapeutic agents of different classes as well as an overview of anaesthetic management in such situations.
