With rapid economic development, China is facing with serious environmental pollution. This paper gave a brief introduction of current status of water environment in China, analyzed sources and causes of pollution, proposed integrated remediation technologies of heavily polluted water environment, recommended control technologies of centralized point source pollution as well as developed several control technologies of first flush pollution and combined sewer overflow pollution in terms of separate and combined sewer systems individually. This paper also briefly introduced demonstration projects related to river ecological remediation and gave primary cognition misunderstanding and thinking on integrated remediation of water environment based on the author’s experiences of cooperation with governments, industry and research institutes for many years.
Guan Yuntao completed his PhD at Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University. He was a Postdoctoral fellow from 2000 to 2002 in the University of Tokyo. He was an Associate Professor of Tsinghua University from 2002-2010, an Associate Professor of Kyoto University from 2005-2009, a Visiting Professor of Kyoto University in 2013 and an Adjunct Professor of Queensland University of Technology from 2013 to 2017. Now, he is a Professor and the Director of Research Center for Environmental Engineering and Management, Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University, Director of Guangdong Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Urban Water Cycle and Water Environment Safety and Vice Director of State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Microorganism Application and Risk Control. He has published more than 200 papers in Chinese and international journals and conference proceedings.
